Present Continuous

 

The present continous is used when an action started in the past and is still going on now. It is also used for things you are doing right now.

Example: I am working

 

I + (form of) be + verb + ing                         -----> I am working

She/He/It + (form of) be + verb + ing      -----> She/He/It is working

We + (form of)be + verb + ing                     -----> We are working

They + (form of) be + verb + ing                -----> They are working

Questions in the Present Continuous

 

To turn a sentence into a yes/ no question you use 'to be'.

 

I am going home  --> Am I going home?

He is studying nursing --> Is he studying nursing?

We are watching "Fifty Shades of Grey"? --> Are we watching "Fifty Shades to Grey"?

 


Negative sentence in Present Continuous

 

Negative sentences in the present continuous are made with 'to be'.

 

 

They are living in Ireland. --> They are not living in Ireland. (are not can be written as aren't)

I am flying to Italy. --> Am I flying to Italy?

It is not going well. --> Is it not going well? (is it can be written as isn't)
