Past Continuous

The past continuous is used when we want to talk about an action that was happening over a period of time in the past.

Example: I was living in London this time last year.

Most of the time the past continuous is used in combination with the past simple to say that something happened in the middle of something else.

Example: I was watching a movie when you called. -->  The calling here happens in the middle of watching a movie.
